Personality: Sweaty Teddy
After almost 20 years with Complete Music, Ted-"Sweaty Teddy"-Burke has built a reputation as one of the most outgoing, interactive DJs you'll ever see. In extremely high demand, we recommend calling in early if you have your heart set on Ted.
DJ Personality Style:
I am a chameleon. While I enjoy getting out on the dance floor with my guests and whooping it up with them, I can also be the "dignified butler" as well as any other type of personality my particular clients may want. I enjoy instructing guests on how to do dances like the Cupid Shuffle and I always emphasize that I will never ask my guests to do something that I am not willing to do myself.
Favorite DJ Memory?
I was playing at a hall that had tow other weddings going on and Complete Music Djs were in those two other rooms as well. During the Dollar Dance, I was told there was a small fire going in one of the other rooms and that I must evacuate everybody in an orderly fashion immediately, So I announced to everybody to please gather their belongings and family and please exit into the foyer area and outside as quickly and orderly as possible. The bride said "You're kidding" to which I replied "No I am not." My cohort in the back starts playing Don't Worry Be Happy as his group heads outside. I started playing Smoke Gets In Your Eyes and they DJ where the fire was happening played HOt HOt HOT and those guests suddenly merge with the other two bridal parties and exit the hall while doing a Conga line outside in the parking lot around the Fire Engines and singing to the firefighters "Are you feeling HOT HOT HOT...etc?" and the brides threw their veils in the air in a tribute to the fire fighters! No one was hurt, there was no real damage and the hall owner extended their time for an extra hour.
What is your favorite thing about being a DJ?
It's knowing that on one of the most important and stressful day's of my clients lives they are entrusting me to guide them and get them and their guests through the day so that THEY can enjoy themselves.
What makes you unique/stand out?
I always remind the clients that I've got their back, and that they are the most important people in the world to me that night because out of all their guests coming that night, NOBODY came to see me!
Favorite part of the night?
While the dancing is obviously the most fun to me, I have to say that my favorite part is actually the end when I see how happy everybody is. When the clients tell me, "Thank you Ted, we could not have done this without you" I still smile and get that warm feeling that comes from making others happy.
Favorite party song:
Paradise By The Dashboard Lights is one of my favorite group dances, especially when couples choose to do the "Battle of The Sexes" during the song.
Fun fact:
Dr. Ruth Westheimer and I shared a chicken salad sandwich once. My favorite though is I made the cover of the Riverfront Times and was the cover story for that issue!
